I’m pleased to announce a forthcoming writing competition for LGBT youth and their allies, sponsored by Rainbow Youth. This competition is open to all high school students in New Zealand and encourages submissions around the theme of What Allyship Means to Me.
One winner will be selected and awarded a $500 cash prize as well as the opportunity for their winning essay to be published on the NZ Herald website. Up to two honourable mentions will be selected and awarded prizes as well. More information on the prizes will be forthcoming.
The competition will be judged by Professor Caroline Blyth (University of Auckland), a representative from Rainbow Youth, and NZ Herald education reporter Simon Collins.
Submissions should be under 2000 words and are due by 30 September at 11:00 pm. Applicants should submit their essays by sending them as a PDF attachment (filename should read “[last name].[first name]”) to firstname.lastname@example.org. Finalists will be announced by 1 November 2018.
If you have any questions about the competition, please don’t hesitate to direct them to email@example.com.
